PROPOSED THRUST AREAS FOR THE YEAR 2008-09

The club is concentrating more on youth this year. The youth have lots of dreams. It is only if we make their dreams real will there be any meaning in our club activities. Keeping this in mind we have proposed to undertake the following projects

Career Guidance

Interest, Aptitude, Intelligence test will be conducted jointly with St Aloysius High school on its students. This test will be conducted by Young Buzz, a company specialising in career guidance for children. They have conducted more than two hundred career guidance programmes all over India. . Based on the result of this test the child will be in a position to know which field or career would be most suitable for him.

Adulteration Detection Training for Interactors

The food that we consume is sometimes contaminated or adulterated by unscrupulous traders. The Interactors would be trained to detect adulteration in food items by conducting some simple tests. Kits would be provided for the purpose. The Interactors in turn would train people of the community in adulteration detection. St Aloysius High School would be the centre for adulteration detection. Anybody wishing to test their samples could do so at this centre.

Mid-Day Meals

Children at Vidya Jyothi School are encouraged to come to school by providing them with free meals in the afternoon. These children are mainly children of migrant labourers

Development Of Mentally and Physically Challenged Children

Special children are often misunderstood or neglected by the people at large. Our club has taken the charge of highlighting the needs of these children to the members of the public. It is proposed to collaborate with the NGO's to provide play equipment exclusively for these children at Gandhinagar Park, Mangalore

Hearing Aid Camps and Free Audiology Check Up For Children And The Needy

It is a known fact that some children without the knowledge of the teachers and parents are backward in studies because of poor hearing.  Keeping this in mind we are proposing to screen children in the primary school level for hearing loss.  These children will be provided with Hearing –Aids if necessary.

Pulse Polio

Our commitment to the eradication of polio by participating in pulse polio will still continue.

Drinking water

Schools would be provided with water tanks to provide safe drinking water in schools.
